A Large Antique “Trog” w/ Markings, Scandinavia c. 1700s

Antique Scandinavian Trog. A hand-carved trog in aged burled wood, likely Norwegian, 18th or 19th century. The single lug handle with its oval cutout is a hallmark of Scandinavian folk craftsmanship, and the owner’s marks carved beneath the handle tell of a time when objects were made to last generations. The grain is extraordinary, with wild swirling burl patterns on the exterior and a smoother, more worn interior from decades of use. Cracks in the wood are part of its character. A rare piece of Nordic material culture.
