A Pair of “Sportstuge” chairs in style of Axel Einar Hjorth, Sweden c. 1940s

A pair of solid pine lounge chairs in the manner of Axel Einar Hjorth’s Sportstuge designs, produced in Sweden in the 1940s. The chairs feature a sturdy, architectural frame with wide armrests and vertical slatted backs, reflecting the rustic yet refined cabin aesthetic associated with Hjorth’s work. Recently reupholstered in Belgian linen, with loose seat and back cushions that complement the warm tone and natural grain of the wood. Wear consistent with age and use. Minor marks, scratches, and patina to the wood. Structurally sound. The wood may appear slightly lighter in person than in the photos.
