Paavo Tynell Floor Lamp Model 9602, “Chinese Hat”, Taito, Finland, c. 1940s

A rare and iconic floor lamp designed by Paavo Tynell and produced by Taito Oy, the Model 9602 was originally created in 1935 for Hotel Aulanko and remains one of Tynell’s most celebrated designs. Known as the “Chinese Hat,” it features a brass base and stem with a conical wicker shade that casts a warm, atmospheric light. Tynell, often called “the man who illuminated Finland,” designed fixtures for the Finnish Parliament House and the United Nations, and his work is still regarded as some of the finest mid-century Scandinavian lighting. Shade of later date, rewired.
